Tamil Nadu Open University (TNOU) with its headquarters at Chennai is engaged in imparting education under open and distance learning stream. Its Admission activities cover the entire State of Tamilnadu. The TNOU is offering various Academic Programmes from Undergraduate to Research level Programmes.
The admission processes are being executed through On-Line mode in TNOU. The admission to the following programmes is done during CY 2023.

Any eligible candidate can submit the application along with the admission fees through online mainly or offline.
Tamil Nadu Open University has on its roll registered count of a total of 210 Learner Support Centres across the State of Tamilnadu. The LSCs, where the UG and PG Programmes are conducted LSCs are given admission login for facilitating admission of the candidates who seeking admission for various programmes offered by TNOU.
TNOU has 12 Regional Centres which are located at Chennai, Salem, Tiruvannamalai, Mayiladuthurai, Sivagangai, Coimbatore, Dharmapuri, Madurai, Trichy, the Nilgiris, Tirunelveli and Viluppuram in Tamil Nadu. These Regional Centres are managed by the Regional Coordinators for providing all the required support services to learners and LSCs.
Tamil Nadu Open University executes total automation from admission to examinations. TNOU receives applications for new admission from the applicants through online submission with online fee collection and it happens in a simpler and user friendly manner.
On providing Applicant’s basic details such as Candidate Name, Father Name, Mother Name, Date of Birth, E-Mail ID, Gender, Proof for Identity and Contact Number, the application process is registered and a unique Application No. is generated and notified for further online transaction to the candidate. Applicant has to fill the required information and upload the necessary documents.
On confirmation of correctness of the details entered and declaring so, the candidate will be displayed with a screen to make the online payment of the fee.
After the confirmation and proceeding to pay the fee, the applicant will be directed to a payment gateway to make the online payment by selecting the choice through Net Banking or Debit Card or Credit Card.
After the successful payment of application fees candidate can download the application in PDF format.
Successful applications pushed to the Database of the Server located at TNOU and the same is not accessible to outsider. Once the data synchronized, with enclosures are now locally available for further process by the staff of the University for approval or otherwise. The approval process steps are described as below:
The Staff in the admission section verifies all the details including the application and other supporting documents in relation to eligibility as regards to the programme chosen by the candidate and then the admission is confirmed.
On successful verification and confirmation of the admission, the system will notify automatically and allocate enrolment number as per the logic. The admission approved cases are seamlessly pushed to the next stage. On confirmation of Admission, the learners will receive a SMS through their mobile stating that the admission is confirmed.
The ID cards for all the newly admitted learners will be generated as prompted by the system. In case, the photo is not to the appropriate size for generating the ID card, then such cases will be pushed as ID Card Memo Cases for taking fresh photo from the candidate
Simultaneously the system will prompt and provide the relevant details of the study material to be dispatched to the student according to the programme of study to which admitted. The system will also keep tracking the stock in this regard.
If any deficiencies like lack of relevant information or supporting document/ photo or signature etc., the staff of Admission section, can make those observations at approval process itself.
Login either by the candidate directly or by the Centre, the deficiencies notified could be made rectified by providing /uploading the relevant details online.
Once the rectification is over, the relevant details will automatically be pushed in a secured manner to the Data Base of the central server in the TNOU.
Such rectified cases will once again be made available for the Asst. Registrar / staff to approve the admission and to generate the ID card as the case may be as explained above.
Towards the objective of achieving total automation and better e-Governance ensuring Efficiency, Qualitative Output, Standardized Work Culture and Transparency, the Tamil Nadu Open University has launched a Student Portal in its website to enable TNOU learners to track their academic information and avail various services from the University. This will also be an online platform to accept learners’ grievances, if any, and redress them speedily.
By launching this online portal, the University has taken a pioneering endeavor to be in continuous touch with the learners and provide them the services at their door step. Not only a means furthering the attentive relationship with the learners but also bringing speedy responsiveness, cost savings and public satisfaction.
Now, all the learners of the TNOU can register in the portal and know about their academic performance, payments and dues to be paid and make requests for various services as well as raise grievance for redress without actually visiting the University or its Regional centres saving their time, efforts and money. Every request of the students on their day today requirements can be brought to the notice of the University by a click of button.
Admission Section takes care of not only admitting learners, but also track them to complete their course of study.
