Introduction

Tamilnadu Open University, a well reputed University, established School of Education in 2004 to offer teacher education programmes both in Tamil and English medium. The School of Education runs the Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) programme with the annual in-take of 1000 students per year. B.Ed., programme is recognized by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE), and University Grants Commission (UGC) – Distance Education Bureau (DEB).

This School shows uniqueness in all dimensions of running teacher education programme through distance mode having 10 Programme Study Centres across the State. The Self-Instructional Materials of B.Ed, both in Tamil and English Medium which are developed by the faculty members of the School are highly beneficial to the students. These course materials are used by several other Universities, while launching their B.Ed. programme. The instructional strategies in training-learning are carried out with innovative methods and latest technologies. The student support services, extension service and quality training are being provided to the learners.

The School of Education also concentrates on offering Value added courses and Skill development courses at certificate and short-term level.
