About the Regional Centre

The establishment of the Tamil Nadu Open University by an Act of the Legislative Assembly of the Government of Tamil Nadu in 2002, the academic activities began in 2003. As per the G.O.No.109 of Tamilnadu Government, dated 25-06-2013, the Chennai Regional was established at the HQ of Tamilnadu Open University, Chennai. Chennai Regional Centre is catering academic services to the learner community under the Jurisdiction of three districts namely, Chennai, Kanchipuram and Thiruvallur districts. It is one among the eight Regional Centres of TNOU.

  • To monitor and support to the Study Centres such as pre- admission counselling, admission status, Issue of ID card distribution, SLM status, conducting Academic Counselling Class, submission of assignment and post admission support.
  • To handle the students and Study Centres grievances for smooth functioning by providing adequate academic supports to them.
  • To indulge promotional activities to take off TNOU programmes.
  • To act in bridging learners support services activities between the student Support services Divisions and Chennai Regional Centre
  • To enhance admission through making awareness among the workers in industry and academy.
  • To impart academic and career counseling to potential learners.
  • To facilitate to the admission related process under the jurisdiction of Chennai Regional Centre
  • To conduct special admission and grievances redressal camp to the students.
  • To look after all other academic support services to the students.

  • Academic counselling has been providing to the candidate those who are seeking support to prior the admission to the TNOU Programmes
  • Library facilities including Digital Library are available to access journals in the premises


  • To initiate for acquiring land and then construction of building to Regional Centre in order to provide the support services to the learners at their door steps
  • To create a model Regional Centre in providing excellence of support services
