About CMPD

The Centre for Multimodal Material Production for Differently Abled (CMPD) is to be established at the headquarters of Tamil Nadu Open University as per the Tamilnadu G.O.Ms.No.72 of Higher Education (K2) Department dated 21.05.2012. The Centre aims to cater to the educational needs of students with disabilities of our University as well as in and around Chennai city. The Centre shall extend its services across the State through the Regional Centres of the University..

Aim

  • To make TNOU a barrier free and accessible University for persons with disabilities

Objectives

  • To produce Braille books/materials with or without tactile graphics, talking books in human voice, large print materials in various subjects in English and regional language based on the needs of students with visual impairment.
  • To produce closed caption educational videos with sign language for students with hearing impairment.
  • To produce Orthotics and Prosthetics devices for students with mobility oriented disorders.
  • To produce multimedia based computer assisted educational packages for students with Learning Disabilities.
  • To organize need based trainings and workshops etc. for students with disabilities, teachers and parents.
  • To establish linkages with national and international organizations to strengthen the supports provided to students with disabilities and others stakeholders.

  • Students with various disabilities.
  • Teachers of schools and higher education institutions who serve students with and without disabilities.
  • Parents of students with disabilities.

2019-20

3.12.2020 – Observation of International Day of Persons with Disabilities (Virtual Mode)

The Centre for Multimodal Material Production for Differently Abled (CMPD), School of Special Education and Rehabilitation of TNOU has observed International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) on 03-12-2020. A Webinar on “Building Back Better: Towards an Inclusive, Accessible and Sustainable Post COVID-19 World By, For and With Persons with Disabilities” was organised as a part of IDPD. The presidential address was given by Dr.K.Rathnakumar, Registrar. The Special Lecture on Role of Resource Centre in Post-COVID-19 Scenario for Learners with Disabilities was given by Dr.J.Sujathamani, Professor and Head, Department of Special Education and Disability Studies, Alagappa University, Karaikudi. The Special Lecture on Translating COVID-19 situation as Opportunity to provide Service to Children with Disabilities was given by Dr.S. Prabakar Immunuel, Executive Director, Holy Cross Service Society, Trichirappalli. Dr.M.Manivannan, Chairman, Faculty of Education of TNOU offered the felicitation. Dr.B.Anubamadevi, Director (i/c), School of Special Education and Rehabilitation coordinated the Programme and Mr.R.Tamilselvan, Coordinator, Centre for Multimodal Material Production for Differently Abled (CMPD) of TNOU proposed the vote of thanks.
